About CalcMyPaycheck

CalcMyPaycheck makes free, easy-to-use calculators that help people in the United States understand their money — starting with how much of a paycheck you actually take home after taxes. Our goal is to turn confusing tax rules into a single, clear number you can plan around.

How we calculate take-home pay

Every estimate combines four components:

  • Federal income tax — 2026 IRS tax brackets and the standard deduction for your filing status (single, married filing jointly, or head of household).
  • Social Security — 6.2% of wages up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500.
  • Medicare — 1.45% of all wages, plus an additional 0.9% on wages above $200,000.
  • State income tax — state income tax rates and brackets, including the nine states that do not tax wages.

Data sources

Federal figures are based on the IRS 2026 inflation adjustments (Rev. Proc. 2025-32) and Social Security Administration limits. State figures are based on each state's published income tax schedules. We review this data as new rates are released.

Important limitations

These calculators provide estimates for informational and educational purposes only. They are not tax, legal, or financial advice. Real paychecks vary with your W-4 elections, local taxes, benefits, and other deductions. Always confirm important decisions with the IRS, your state tax authority, or a qualified professional.
